During Diabetes Awareness Month in November 2023, Lavior launched at Walmart, and its Diabetic Wound Therapy (now Diabetic Wound Hydrogel) carries the American Diabetes Association's Better Choices for Life mark. The launch made Lavior's diabetic wound care available in Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com.

This post recaps that company news and the diabetes wound care challenges behind it.

What did Lavior announce?

Lavior announced two milestones in November 2023: its retail launch at Walmart and its participation in the American Diabetes Association's Better Choices for Life program.

  • Walmart launch: Lavior products became available in roughly 3,000 Walmart stores and on Walmart.com, making them easier to find for people managing diabetes-related skin and wound concerns.
  • Better Choices for Life: Lavior's Diabetic Wound Therapy (now sold as Diabetic Wound Hydrogel) was accepted into the ADA program and carries the Better Choices for Life mark.

Lavior founder Anabelle Savion said at the time that the company was proud to take part in the program, and described Lavior's mission as improving quality of life for people with diabetes through accessible, affordable wound and skin care.

What is the ADA Better Choices for Life program?

Better Choices for Life is an American Diabetes Association program designed to help consumers make better-informed choices about diabetes-related products. Products that carry the mark have met the program's guidelines.

The mark is meant to help shoppers compare products. It does not replace advice from your healthcare provider about how to care for a wound.

Why does access to diabetic wound care matter?

Non-healing foot wounds are one of the most serious complications of diabetes, and they are a leading cause of lower-limb amputation in the United States. Neuropathy, poor circulation and high blood sugar mean that even small cuts and blisters can become hard-to-heal ulcers.

The burden is not shared equally. Native American, African American, and Latino and Hispanic communities face higher rates of diabetes, diabetes-related amputation and complications, reflecting wider gaps in access to care. For the everyday side of foot care, see a complete diabetic foot care routine.

Early attention to any foot wound, daily foot checks and regular visits with a healthcare provider are the foundation of prevention. Our guide to diabetic wound care at home covers the basics, and you can learn more about the season itself in why Diabetes Awareness Month is in November.

What is in Lavior's Diabetic Wound Hydrogel?

Diabetic Wound Hydrogel is formulated with Inula AGS-RIED, Lavior's proprietary extract of Inula viscosa, a Mediterranean plant, and contains no steroids. It is available over the counter.

How Lavior's Diabetic Wound Hydrogel fits in

Lavior™ Diabetic Wound Hydrogel helps maintain a moist wound environment when used for the indications described on its label. Follow the product instructions and your healthcare professional's wound care plan. Like every Lavior formula, it is built around Inula AGS-RIED, Lavior's proprietary extract of the Mediterranean plant Inula viscosa. It is intended for use as part of a wound care plan with regular involvement from your healthcare provider.
