Lavior makes four products: a barrier cream for dry, intact skin, two hydrogels for minor wounds, and a gel for skin recovering after a procedure. Which one you need depends on whether the skin is intact or broken, and why it is broken. This guide explains what each is designed for, and what none of them should be used for.
Why does diabetic skin need different products?
Diabetes is linked to several skin changes that call for different kinds of care.
- Dryness and itching: dry skin cracks more easily, and cracks can let germs in. See diabetic dry skin (xerosis).
- Reduced sensation: nerve damage can make a cut or blister easy to miss, especially on the feet.
- Slower healing: reduced blood flow and high blood sugar can slow the repair of minor wounds.
Intact dry skin needs moisture and barrier support. Broken skin needs a clean, moist, covered wound environment. Those are different jobs, which is why the products are separate.
Which Lavior product is for which situation?
| Situation | Product | Skin type |
|---|---|---|
| Daily dryness on feet, legs, hands or elbows | Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream | Intact skin only |
| Minor wounds, cuts and scrapes on diabetic or fragile skin | Diabetic Wound Hydrogel | Broken skin |
| Everyday cuts, scrapes and abrasions for the household | Multipurpose Wound Gel | Broken skin |
| Skin recovering after surgery or a minor procedure | Post-Surgical Skin Barrier Gel | Per your surgeon's instructions |
Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream: for dry, intact skin
The Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream is a daily moisturizer designed to support the skin's natural barrier on dry, sensitive areas such as the feet, legs, hands and elbows.
- Use it: once or twice a day on clean, intact skin, ideally after bathing.
- Don't use it: on open wounds, between the toes, or on CGM or insulin pump insertion sites, which should be clean and dry.
- Good to know: fragrance-free, paraben-free, steroid-free and suitable for sensitive skin.
For what to look for in any moisturizer, see best lotion for diabetic skin.
Diabetic Wound Hydrogel: for minor wounds on diabetic skin
The Diabetic Wound Hydrogel is a hydrogel dressing with Inula viscosa that helps maintain a moist wound environment and helps protect the wound surface from dryness.
- Use it: on minor cuts, scrapes and skin irritations, and as part of a provider-guided plan for other wounds. Apply a thin layer under a non-stick bandage once or twice daily, or as directed.
- Don't use it: in place of seeing a provider for a foot wound, a deep wound, or any wound showing signs of infection.
For help matching a dressing to a wound, see how to choose a dressing for a diabetic wound.
Multipurpose Wound Gel: for everyday household injuries
The Multipurpose Wound Gel is a hydrogel with aloe vera and Inula viscosa for minor cuts, scrapes, abrasions and everyday skin irritations, for anyone in the household.
- Use it: after cleaning a minor injury, under a non-stick bandage.
- Don't use it: on deep, heavily bleeding or infected wounds, or on large or blistering burns.
Post-Surgical Skin Barrier Gel: for skin after a procedure
The Post-Surgical Skin Barrier Gel is a botanical gel designed to help maintain a moist, protected environment for skin recovering after surgery or a minor procedure.
- Use it: only as and when your surgeon or care team says topical products are appropriate for your incision.
- Don't use it: on an incision that is open, draining or showing signs of infection without your surgeon's approval.

What do all four products have in common?
All four are made with Inula viscosa, Lavior's botanical ingredient. They are designed to support the skin's barrier or a moist wound environment. None of them is intended to treat, cure or prevent any medical condition, and none replaces your medications, blood sugar management or care from your healthcare provider.
How Lavior's Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream fits in
For most people with diabetes, daily skin care starts with intact skin, which makes the Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream the everyday product in the lineup. Like every Lavior formula, it is built around Inula AGS-RIED, Lavior's proprietary extract of the Mediterranean plant Inula viscosa. Lavior™ Diabetic Skin Barrier Cream is a fragrance-free, plant-based formula designed to support the skin's natural barrier and provide long-lasting hydration of dry, intact skin, without steroids. It is intended for intact skin, not open or bleeding fissures. Keep one of the hydrogels on hand for minor wounds, check your skin and feet daily, and talk to your provider about any crack, sore or wound that is not improving.
